MPS announces move of Special Services Department & +18 L.I.F.E. Program

McAlester Public Schools is proud to announce the relocation of its Special Services Department to the former Washington Early Childhood Center, located at 700 South 6th Street. This move marks a significant milestone in the district's ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive support and services for students with diverse needs.

The facility, designed to create an inclusive and accessible environment, is equipped to offer a range of specialized services to better support our students. This centralized location will serve as the hub for our dedicated team of professionals, enabling them to deliver more effective and coordinated care for students across the district.

In addition to the move, McAlester Public Schools is excited to introduce the +18 L.I.F.E. (Learning Independence for Every Day) Program. This initiative is specifically tailored for young adults aged 18 to 21 who have participated in Special Education and completed the Oklahoma Alternate Assessment Program (OAAP). The +18 L.I.F.E. Program is designed to foster independence by equipping participants with essential life skills, helping them transition smoothly into adulthood and achieve their full potential.

Special Services Director Mrs. Kim Baxter, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: "This space and the launch of the +18 L.I.F.E. Program represents our district's unwavering commitment to every student's success. We believe that by providing these resources, we are not only meeting the immediate needs of our students but also laying the foundation for their future independence and success."
