Scholarships for American Indian Students

This is not an exhaustive list of all scholarship and resources available and McAlester Indian Education does not administer the resources or programs listed below.

 

You may contact Indian Education if you have questions about the college or scholarship application process and requirements. Please note, some questions may need to be directed to the respective tribe, school, or organization.

 

American Indian Graduate Center Wells Fargo Undergraduate Scholarships

Amount: Varies

Requirements: This scholarship is funded by Wells Fargo and administered by American Indian Graduate Center. To be considered an applicant must be enrolled in a federally recognized tribe and be a junior or senior pursuing a career and degree in fields related to banking, resort management, gaming operations, management and administration, including accounting, finance, information technology and human resources.

Deadline: Ongoing

 

Oklahoma Indian Student Honor Society, John Sam Memorial Scholarship

Amount: $1000

Requirements: High School Senior with 3.9 GPA who demonstrates tribal and community involvement.

Deadline: February 2025

 

The Maureen L. and Howard N. Blitman, P.E., Scholarship to Promote Diversity in Engineering
Amount: $2,500

Requirements: This scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior from an ethnic minority who has been accepted into an ABET-accredited engineering program at a four-year college or university.

Deadline: March 2025

 

Intertribal Timber Council Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program

Amount: Up to $2,000

Requirements: The Truman D. Picard Scholarship Program is dedicated to the support of Native American students pursuing a higher education in Natural Resources.

Deadline: March 2025

 

Cobell Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Requirements: Both Merit-based and Need-based, the competitive Cobell Scholarship is annual, non-renewable, and available to any post-secondary (after high school) student who is; an enrolled member of a US Federally-Recognized Tribe, enrolled in full-time study and is degree-seeking. Applicants must plan to attend or be attending any nationally, regionally and industry accredited non-profit, public and private, institution.Applicants must be pursuing a vocational certificate or diploma, associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral or professional degree, or certificate.

Deadline: March 2025

 

American Indian Education Fund

Amount: Varies

Requirements: Undergraduates students must be of American Indian or Alaska Native descent (student or one parent must be enrolled and have documentation) and be enrolled full-time in an accredited 2 or 4 year college/university or technical/vocational school. Graduate students must be of American Indian or Alaska Native descent and attending an accredited graduate school (online college is not applicable).

Deadline: April 2025

 

American Indian College Fund Scholarships- Full Circle Scholarship

Amount: Varies

Requirements: American Indian College Fund provides scholarship support to each tribal college and university and administers several scholarship programs to American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate and graduates students attending tribal colleges and state and private universities.

Deadline: Full Circle Scholarship Deadline: May 2025

 

*Indian Health Services Scholarship (future scholarship reference)**

The Indian Health Service (IHS) offers three scholarships for American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate students in order to educate and train health professionals to staff Indian health programs.

Oklahoma's Promise

Oklahoma's Promise offers qualified Oklahoma students an opportunity to earn a scholarship for college tuition to an Oklahoma college.

Requirements

  • Must be an Oklahoma resident.
  • Must be enrolled in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade.
  • The parents' federal adjusted gross income must not exceed $55K per year

What's the Common App?

The Common Application, which is also more informally referred to as the Common App, is an advanced college application that is used to help prospective college students apply to multiple colleges at once. While you cannot apply to every single accredited institution by using this single application, you can apply to a larger number of undergraduate programs. The common app opens August 1. Deadlines for early decision is November 1 and January 1 for regular decision.
