MPS Welcomes the Return of Campus Police Department

McAlester Public Schools is pleased to announce the reinstatement of its Campus Police Department, a significant step in ensuring the safety and security of our student population of almost 3,000 students. This initiative is part of our district’s ongoing commitment to creating a safe and conducive learning environment for every student and staff member.

The McAlester Public Schools Campus Police Department will play a crucial role in maintaining a secure atmosphere across all school campuses. Their responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

*Student Engagement: Campus officers will engage with students to build trust, offer guidance, and promote a positive relationship between law enforcement and the school community.

*Patrolling School Grounds: Officers will regularly patrol school campuses to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

*Emergency Response: The department will be the first line of response during emergencies, including potential threats, or any incidents that could compromise safety.

*Preventative Measures: The department will implement security measures, conduct drills, and collaborate with school administration to assess and address potential risks.

*Law Enforcement: Officers will enforce laws, ensuring that the school environment remains safe and orderly. Campus police along with four additional reserve officers will be present at athletic and extracurricular school events.

The McAlester Public Schools Campus Police Department will work closely with local law enforcement agencies and will have partnerships with the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office, McAlester Police Department, and Choctaw Nation Tribal Police working together to ensure that all safety protocols are up-to-date and effectively implemented. Additionally, MPS is looking to add to our campus police department. The district is confident that this move will enhance the overall well-being of our students and staff.
