In past years I have served as the Reading Sufficiency coordinator, the Textbook committee chairperson and the gifted and talented teacher. I have been a 4-H leader for many years.
In my classroom I use the Whole Brain teaching approach as well as put to good use PAX training which is a behavior management program.
I have been teaching for McAlester Public Schools for the past 8 years. I truly believe this is the best school in Oklahoma!
Before teaching in McAlester, I taught 1st grade at Stuart Public School until I became the Library Media Specialist at which time I began teaching 5th and 6th grade Social Studies and Art.
Grades 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8th
I have been married for 43 years to my wonderful husband Jimmy. Jim is retired now and comes up to the school from time to time to help run off papers and do other ‘non-teacher’ type things.
I have 1 son and 1 daughter. My son runs the family business called, “The Farm” which is currently in the market garden business.
My daughter is a teacher at McAlester. She teaches 7th and 8th grade STEM classes, is the TSA leader and the 4-H leader.
My grand-daughter attends Puterbaugh Middle School 7th grade. She is a member of band and the volleyball team. She is also very active in 4-H.
I love being at home with my family. We work hard with my son and the family business, but it is a passion we all share.
We have chickens, ducks, geese, guinea pigs, hamsters, pet rats, pet mice, a gecko lizard and a ball python snake. We alos have 7 dogs and too many cats to count. We tend to rescue animals that are in need of a good home.
We also have adopted several horses and burros from the Bureau of Land Management. We do not ride but provide them with a comfortable life.
